Curious about sewing but not sure where to start? Sewing Basics 1 at Desert Sage Studio is the perfect beginner-friendly class designed to build your confidence from the very first stitch. You’ll learn how to use a sewing machine, understand basic tools and terminology, read simple patterns, and create a small finished project to take home.
Whether you’re looking to mend your own clothes, explore a new creative hobby, or build a foundation for more advanced projects, this welcoming, hands-on class will give you the skills and inspiration to begin your sewing journey.
Don’t have your own sewing machine….*yet*? That’s okay! We will bring one for you. Sit back & relax. When you show up to class a machine will already be set up, threaded, and ready to sew!
The Sewcial Sip Series: Sustainable Sewing
In this Sewcial Sip Series class, we’ll explore how to thoughtfully reuse and repurpose textiles like denim jeans, corduroy, vintage quilts, sheets, pillowcases, and more. Learn how different fabric types behave, what they’re best suited for, and how to confidently transform forgotten materials into beautiful future projects.
No sewing machines. No pressure.

In This Class You’ll Learn:
• The difference between fiber types and fabric structures
• How weight, drape, and durability affect your projects
• What denim, corduroy, quilts, and sheets are actually good for
• When to preserve a textile — and when to reinvent it
• How to plan a realistic repurpose project from start to finish

In Sew 2 we will cover presser feet, basic machine maintenance, zippers, and more to support your continued sewing journey. You will go home with a completed boxy bag project to show off to your family and friends along with the pattern to create more.
Whether you’re looking to mend your own clothes, explore a new creative hobby, or build a foundation for more advanced projects, this welcoming, hands-on class will give you the skills and inspiration you’re looking for.
